Holiday dialysis in AZ Sint-Jan

For a dialysis patient, going on a foreign holiday is not as simple as it may sound. That is why we have a team of medical specialists, dialysis nurses and social worker to coordinate the organization of a carefree holiday. Below you can find the required information for you to pass a smooth holiday in Belgium.

Holiday dialysis application

Before you start planning, inquire with your nephrologist whether you are medically fit to travel.

Make your holiday dialysis application at least two months in advance. Provide us with the exact duration of your holiday, the holiday address and the phone number where you can be reached during your holiday. Send us a copy of your identity card or passport and at least one month before your arrival a copy of your health care insurance data or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

We also welcome patients in peritoneal dialysis, patients with MRSA colonization, and patients affected with HIV, hepatitis B and C. However, this information needs to be provided explicitly and well in advance.

Contact with the dialysis unit in AZ Sint-Jan Brugge

Further arrangements of your holiday dialysis will be made by your own dialysis unit. They will provide us with all the necessary medical and nursing information for a smooth transition to our unit. The social worker of your unit will contact our financial department and make arrangements for your transport.

Transport to the dialysis unit in AZ Sint-Jan Brugge

We can only arrange transport to and from our dialysis unit for patients that are subject to the Belgian health care system. Patients who don’t have Belgian health insurance have to make their own transport arrangements. You could make use of a local taxi company. More information about the availability of such taxi companies can be provided to you by your hotel or holiday facility. The social worker of our dialysis center can help in case of questions or difficulties. You can make a request for a payment receipt to the transport company. We can provide you with an attestation of the number of dialysis sessions performed in our center.
